Ethics

1. What is the "principle of self-determination"? How does it apply to a patient being able to refuse medical care, including life-prolonging care?

2. How do you feel about life-prolonging interventions, such as keeping a patient on a respirator even after they are brain-dead? Would you want that for yourself? Would you choose that for your family member? Do you know how your own family members feel about this?

3. How do you feel about the court's decision in the Wanglie case that forced the physician to provide care he did not think would benefit the patient?
