I actually was not as disturbed as I thought I would be by the videos. When the woman (I completely forgot her name) was warning us that any squeamish people might have to leave, I was kind of worried that I would have to leave but it was actually okay.
My dad is a pediatric cardiac surgeon and all of my life he has worked at childrens' hospitals around the country. Since I was little I have visited him at work (when I was little I even went on rounds with him). This all means that I am used to being in pediatric hospitals so, basically, it didn't really "make an impression on me."
I thought it was good for us to see the videos so that we knew what happens when children are in dire need. The videos, especially the one with the little girl, almost made me cry and actually seeing the whole process made it seem more real to me than if it was just an instructional video. When her mother was crying, I almost wanted to cry too.
It was nice to see that the hospital was so colorful and geared to children to make them feel more welcome.
The second video…had an impact on me…the still arms, the quiet face, the lifeless legs, and the end with that emotional shriek of terror from…and then the tears…I love children and no matter what complications they may have, there’s that beauty that one can always find if he/she looks hard enough.
The videos really emphasized how fast the doctors must respond and how many people it takes to save a child when he or she is in dire need. The video of the little girl was so sad but communicated the overall feeling better than anyone just telling us about what goes on.
The videos were actually not as bad as I expected them to be. It was good to see that the trauma room is usually successful but the video of the little girl really made it seem real.
I've been in the children's hospital a few times before but I had never seen so much of it before. The hospital really doesn't feel like a true hospital and has done a great job of making it comfortable for kids and not scary.
I really liked visiting the children's hospital. The hospital has done a wonderful job of making the atmosphere more family-friendly and less scary for the children. The NICU was really neat to see. It's just like one big nursery. It's amazing how small the premature babies really are. The videos that we saw were really intense and make you realize how fast the doctors must work in order to save a life without much preparation beforehand. Everything in the pediatric ed was very organized as well. Overall, I really enjoyed visiting the children's hosptial.
i don't know if it was just me, but the first video, the one with the teens not wearing seatbelts, seemed pretty overdramatic.
anyways, on a more serious tone, the videos of the trauma center were deeply moving. i am glad to see, however, that everyone works together so well and do all that they can to save someone's life.
The videos were definitely worth watching. I still don't know how I feel about the continuation of CPR even when it's hopeless just for show or for the family's psychological health. I'm not sure why, but it just puts me off.
